About RiverEye

RiverEye is a real-time vessel and barge tracking system built for America’s inland waterways. It provides continuous AIS-based monitoring, automated geofence detection, and demurrage calculation — giving fleet operators, terminal operators, and port authorities a live, auditable picture of barge movements on the river.

The system is live at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, tracking vessels across the Mississippi River from a dedicated receiver installation at 470 feet elevation in downtown Baton Rouge. It is deployable at any inland river port.

Why we built it

The inland barge industry moves 630 million tons of cargo annually on America’s rivers, but tracking individual barges remains largely manual. Towboats broadcast AIS. Barges do not. Terminal operators log arrivals by hand. Fleet operators discover demurrage charges weeks after the fact. Disputes are settled by paperwork, not data.

RiverEye closes that gap. By combining real-time AIS reception with geofenced zones and automated dwell-time tracking, it turns raw radio signals into auditable business records — timestamped to the second, mapped to the meter, and exportable to BargeEx.

The technology

AIS Reception

Purpose-built receiver network with high-gain VHF antennas at elevation. Captures every vessel broadcasting on the river — updated every few seconds.

Geofence Engine

PostGIS-powered polygon detection. Draw zones on the map, set free-time and rates. Every entry and exit is detected and logged automatically.

Tow Corroboration

Since barges carry no AIS, RiverEye infers barge identity through fleet records, drop-inference algorithms, and zone-crossing patterns.

BargeEx Integration

D_39 interchange events and D_41 TowStatus export. Sensor-grade timestamps replace manual entries — proof that holds up in billing disputes.

Built by Möbius

RiverEye is a product of Möbius Internet, IT & Communications, a managed technology services company operating in Baton Rouge since 1994. Möbius provides managed IT, internet, VoIP, cybersecurity, and cloud services to businesses across Louisiana and Texas.

RiverEye applies Möbius’s infrastructure and communications expertise to a new domain: giving the inland marine industry the same real-time visibility that other transportation sectors take for granted.
